A detachable, reusable hose end fitting comprises a nipple 12 which is inserted into the hose 10 and has a radial projection defining an abutment 28 and a segmented socket 30 for embracing and compressing the hose and having external shoulders at opposite ends thereof for reception of annular retaining members 38, 44 for maintaining the socket in a contracted condition, the member 44 being a fulcrum band and the member 38 acting as a retaining band. The socket is defined by a number of segments 32 each, at the fulcrum end thereof, having an internal radial shoulder 40 to engage the abutment 28 on the nipple and resist axial movement relative thereto ; the fulcrum ends of the segments engage the inner surface of the member 44 and the segments are rocked to compress the hose upon the nipple to dispose the opposite ends of the segments within a common cylindrical surface to receive the member 38. As shown, the nipple 12 is formed with an annular recess 26 having a conical seat 28, and external annular ribs 22, and the socket comprises, for example five identical segments 32 and has internal annular ribs 50 which on assembly of the fitting are disposed between the ribs 22. The segments 32 are hooked under the fulcrum band 44 and brought into parallelism with each other by the use of a contractible band of roller-chain construction.
