Abstract

847,625. Drawing. BRITISH ROPES Ltd. March 26, 1958 [April 17, 1957], No. 12513/57. Addition to 794,411. Class 83 (4). In an apparatus for drawing wire ropes &c., constant back-tension is applied to the rope at the reducing stage by an arrangement comprising a drag generator. The strands are drawn by a capstan C3 from a bobbin A around a back-tensioning capstan B3 through a die C4 and is wound on a spool D3. The capstan B3 is rotated by an electric drag generator B through a gear-box B2. Alternatively an hydraulic drag generator may be used. Breakage of a wire during the passage of the rope through the die is detected by a photo-electric cell on the exit side of the die which operates a relay to stop the machine. The broken wire is then brazed into position.
