Abstract

847,492. Electromagnetic interaction pumps. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Oct. 25, 1957 [Oct. 26, 1956], No. 32649/56. Addition to 738,764. Class 35. Flux distortion is prevented in an electromagnetic interaction pump as described in the parent Specification by leading the working current back through the working gap. As shown, the current returns through pole face slots 10 in either or both pole faces adjacent the working air-gap 9 between the main core 1 and a shunt core 8. The current-generating secondary winding 3 is divided into several parallel coils joined only at the duct, so as to reduce eddy currents. These coils may be connected to electrodes or directly to the duct wall. An auxiliary winding 12 may be provided to increase the working flux, and may be used to reverse the direction of the pump. The current may be returned by the use of a double channel as described in Specification 693,834. Specification 825,459 also is referred to.
