847,222. Filters. FAUDI FEINBAU G.m.b.H. Aug. 13, 1956 [Aug. 16, 1955], No. 24703/56. Class 46. A method of separating water from liquid emulsions in which the water has a higher specific weight, including the step of passing the emulsion through a very fine filter of cardboard discs having a porosity of up to five microns and then through a second filter of the same or coarser porosity impregnated with a water repellant. In the embodiment shown, a housing 1 is divided by a partition 2 into two chambers each of which houses a filter element, the very fine filter element 4 being in one chamber having the inlet 3 while the water repellant filter 8 is housed in the other chamber having the outlet 10. The two chambers are in communication through the central tube 6 of the filter 4. In a modification the first filter may be of the in-flowout type in which case the partition 2 is omitted, and the filter 4 may be formed from cardboard discs of decreasing diameter while the filter 8 is formed of discs of increasing diameter. In a further modification the first filter may be arranged centrally of the housing with the second filter or filters arranged around it. Baffles may be provided between the two types of filters.
