813,574. Filters; gravity-separating apparatus. TANDI TEINBAU G.m.b.H. Nov. 11, 1955 [Nov. 13, 1954], No. 32314/55. Class 46. Liquid fuels, &c. from which water is to be separated enter a cylindrical casing 1 by an inlet 2 leading to a disc filter 5 ; leaving the interior of the filter, the fuel enters a chamber 6 packed with wood wool, &c. before travelling horizontally along trays 7 where water globules are deposited by gravity on the trays. The discs may be impregnated with a hardened phenol resin on their delivery side, the entry side serving to absorb the water which drains into a sump 9. In the wood wool, the water coalesces into drops which drain away to a sump 12. The trays 7 are saddle-shaped as shown and comprise partitions 15 covered with water absorbent material 16. The discs may be clamped between supporting discs and where the discs are annular and stacked to form a coaxial passage, the fuel flows radially through the discs.
