Abstract
The invention comprises the cuprous compound of ethylene bis-dithiocarbamic acid containing both electrovalent and chelated copper and having the empirical formula C4H6S4Cu3N2, and its preparation by reacting an aqueous solution of an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salt of ethylene bis-dithiocarbamic acid at or about ambient temperature in an atmosphere of inert gas, with a cuprous chloride solution in the presence of an alkali metal chloride and while maintaining the pH of the reaction mixture at 3-4, and recovering the resulting cuprous compound. The sodium ethylene bis-dithiocarbamate may be prepared in situ by reacting CS2 with ethylene diamine and neutralising with sodium hydroxide. The compound of the invention is stated to have fungicidal properties.
