Abstract
The invention comprises a chlorine-containing cuprous complex of dimethyldithiocarbamic acid containing 47 to 50% by weight of copper, which corresponds approximately to the empirical formula C3H6NS2Cu, 2CuCl. The novel complex may be prepared by reacting in an atmosphere of an inert gas, e.g. nitrogen, an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal dimethyl-dithiocarbamate with cuprous chloride in aqueous solution and in the presence of an alkali metal chloride, e.g. sodium chloride, and of bisulphite ions, e.g. sodium bisulphite, and isolating the resulting precipitate. The precipitate may be purified by washing with a saturated alkali metal chloride solution followed by washing with water until the washing water is free from chloride ions. The new cuprous complex may be used in fungicidal compositions (see Group VI).ALSO:A fungicidal composition comprises a chlorine-containing cuprous complex of dimethyldithiocarbamic acid containing 47 to 50% of copper corresponding to an empirical formula C3H6 NS2Cu, 2CuCl, together with an inert carrier.
