Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:0888288/IV (b)/1> where R is methyl, chloromethyl or bromomethyl and X is chlorine or bromine, and their preparation by reacting the ketone RCOCH2X with ammonium bisulphite, preferably in aqueous solution. The compounds are useful as fungicides (see Group VI), and may be applied directly to the soil.ALSO:Fungicidal compositions contain a compound <FORM:0888288/VI/1> where R is methyl, chloromethyl or bromomethyl and X is chlorine or bromine, in conjunction with a carrier. The compositions may be solutions, emulsions or dusts, and standard carriers are specified. It is also stated that the above compounds may be applied directly to the soil.
