Abstract

846,617. Reversible windows. EAST & SON Ltd. Jan. 26, 1959 [March 26;. 1958], No. 9670/58. Class 20(3). [Also in Group XXV] The outer sash 1A of two or more: superimposed sashes collectively rotatable on a horizontal axis 2 in a frame 3 has gravity operated means for locking and unlocking the said: outer sash when swung on the said axis. The outer sash 1A is hinged about a vertical axis to the sash 1 immediately behind it by hinges each providing for limited vertical relative. movement between its flaps 4, 4A, Fig. 6 by providing the flaps with spaces 7 between the looped lugs which embrace the pin and'a co-operating hook type latch 8 Figs. 3 and 4 and latch plate 10 carried respectively on the outer sash 1 A and the sash 1 are effective to lock the sashes together when the window is in the closed position, Fig. 3, but on rotation of the window to its reverse position about its axis the sash 1A slides by gravity over the sash 1 and the latch head 8 unhooks from the latch plate 10 to enable the sash 1A to open inwardly from the sash 1, Fig. 4 for cleaning &c. purposes. In the case where the sash 1A as well as the window as a whole, rotates about a horizontal axis the hinge pin 14, Fig. 15 being then horizontal, one set of lugs on one hinge flap 13A embraces the pin while the lugs 15 on the other hinge flap 13B are looped to provide slots 15A for the pin to permit relative lateral movement of the flaps. The round heads 10, Figs. 3, 4 of the fixing screws of the plate 10A contact the fixing plate of the hook latch 8 leaving a slight gap between the sashes to admit air therebetween and minimise condensation and the heads also reduce the sliding friction between the sashes.
