Abstract

1,182,394. Window hinge. WONDER DOOR HOLDINGS (PROPRIETARY) Ltd. 16 May, 1968 [26 May, 1967; 30 Aug., 1967; 20 Nov., 1967; 12 Jan., 1968; 15 Feb., 1968], No. 23324/68. Heading E2F. A hinge includes a formation 68 on a bearing leaf 62 releasably engageable with a complemental formation 70 in a closure e.g. a door or window 72, and a pintle 54 which is right-angled, the bearing leaf 62 being at right angles to the fixed leaf 50. A door or window assembly includes such hinges along at least two sides, to enable opening about at least two sides thereof. In one form (see Fig. 2), a pin 74 passes through the complemental formation 70 to engage in an orifice 76 in the element 68, thereby locking the arrangement. Cables, or similar means, are attached to the tails of the pins and associated with the handle, actuation of which in a certain direction causes retraction of the pins. If it is not desired to lock the hinges, as described above, the pins may be replaced by spring-loaded balls so that the closure is opened merely by pushing at the desired side. The invention provides for two-way, threeway or four-way opening of doors and windows. For three-way opening, two of the right-angled pintle hinges are located in adjacent corners and other disengageable hinges are located on the two sides adjacent to the two right-angled pintle hinges. For four-way opening, a right-angled pintle hinge is located at each corner.
