Abstract

846,405. Refrigeration. PRESSED STEEL CO. Ltd. Feb. 25, 1959 [Dec. 4, 1957], No. 37737/57. Class 29 [Also in Group XV] A refrigerator cabinet is made by forming a box 1 of insulating material e.g. foamed synthetic plastic material, pressing it into a heated sheet 5 of synthetic thermoplastic material to deform the sheet so that it enwraps the sides of the box, and bringing the sheet into close contact with the outer surface of the box by a vacuum forming operation to form the outer wall. As shown box 1 is mounted on a member 3 which is moved down towards sheet 5 held by supports 6 after heaters 7 have been removed, so that the sheet enwraps the box sides. Vacuum is then applied by duct 8 to the box interior and by reason of apertures 2 or the porosity of the insulation is applied to the inner surface of the sheet to apply it to outer surface of the box. An inner thermpolastic sheet 12 held by holders 13 is then pressed into the box held in a form 10 and a hole 9 is cut in sheet 5 in alignment with hole 11' in form 10. Vacuum is applied to holes 9, 11 to apply sheet 12 to the inner surface of the box to form the cabinet liner. Alternatively it may be applied by pressure. Hole 9 is then sealed and the edges of sheets 5, 12 sealed together at 14, flange 16 serving for the attachment of a similarly formed door. A reinforcing frame e.g. of wood may be secured around the door opening prior to application of sheets 5, 12. Battens to form shelf supports may be fixed to the inner surface of box 1 prior to the 'application of sheet 12.
