Abstract

846,017. Drying apparatus. ROTHENBERGER, J. March 27, 1957 [March 27, 1956], No. 10097/57. Class 34(2) Apparatus for the continuous drying of textile articles prior to ironing consists of at least one drying unit, each containing at least one heated stationary vessel 21 of lenticular form with means 23 for uniformly heating the surface thereof and means for conveying the articles in contact with substantially the whole of the said surface, the articles being fed to and removed from the heated vessel at substantially the same level 30 on opposite sides of a vertical axis. The articles may then enter an ironing machine direct, or a further similar heater before ironing. The vessel is preferably made of polished steel sheet welded at 22 and steel end walls, and contains a heating medium, e.g. oil heated by steam tubes 23 or by a hot gas, or is heated by electricity. To remove steam generated by drying of the textile articles hot air is injected into the outer cover 34 through pipe 32 and is extracted by a suction line 33. The articles are conveyed through the apparatus by a band 25, preferably perforated, which passes over driving rollers 26, guide rollers 28, 28<SP>1</SP> and tensioning roller 27.
