Abstract
845,902. Slicing margarine. UNILEVER Ltd. April 14, 1958 [Feb. 22, 1957], No. 6077/57. Class 87(2). [Also in Groups VIII and XVII] An apparatus for slicing a block or extruded strip of plastic material such as edible fat, comprises a blade which, as it cuts the block, inserts a separating strip of paper, &c., in the cut. The block or strip may be advanced intermittently. In the described embodiment, a block is placed on a platform 2 against a support 9 and the platform is advanced to the left as shown, by a pin 20 on a piston rod 19 engaging a rack 14. The knife 7 is reciprocated vertically by a pneumatic cylinder 31. A web of paper 3 is held by a roller 6 against the knife and is initially adhered to the leading face of the block. A revolving cutter 8 (see Group VIII) severs the web in front of the knife which descends to slice the block and carry the free end of the web into the out. The knife then rises, the block is advanced and the sequence repeated. A web consisting of two separate layers may be used, enabling slices to be separated each with a layer attached to it on each cut side.
