Abstract

741,044. Cutting and punching supports. TREBITSCH, G. Oct. 17, 1951 [Oct. 18, 1950], No. 24266/52. Classes 31(1) and 31 (2). A cutting support for use in a cutting or punching machine comprises a channel member presenting a polygonal, preferably rectangular, upwardly open recess, support means constituted by aluminium alloy rod of polygonal, preferably rectangular, cross-section adapted to be disposed in the recess in any selected one of a plurality of dispositions each to present upwardly a different face of the polygonal section, and packing means disposable in the recess to secure .the support means therein in any selected disposition and transversely adjustable with respect to the breadth of the channel. In the form shown, an aluminium alloy rod b is held in the recess of a channel member a by means of a base packing strip c of angular section and a side packing strip d which is displaceable from one side of the rod b to the other. The packing strips are preferably of wood. The packing strip d may comprise a plurality of thin laths which are individually displaceable. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the base packing strip is made thinner and not of angular section. The base packing strip may be of hard rubber. When the cutting support is for use in a pinking machine, the alloy rods are provided in several sectional lengths of which those not actually operating to support portions of material to be cut have a transverse dimension smaller by 2 to 3 mm. than those of the operative lengths: When the support is for use in a three-knife, or book, trimming machine, 3 mm. thick packers are provided inside the U-section frame both at the sides and ends of the support members so that by suitably displacing the packers, the cutting lines may be displaced to the extent of 3 mms. at both sides and at the base of the frame.
