843,962. Colostomy appliances. WALKER, R. E., and WILSON, F. E., [trading as A. B. C. SPECIALTY CO.]. Oct. 13, 1958 [Oct. 15, 1957], No. 32114/57. Class 81(2). A colostomy appliance comprises an inner annular member 10 and an interfitting outer annular member I which is split for springing over the inner member, the mouth of a flexible receptacle being clamped between the members with its margin folded outwardly around the outer member. The inner annular member 10 is frusto-conical or tapered, its larger diameter being outermost when the device is worn. Four eyes 13 arranged in a common plane on the periphery of the inner annular member cooperate with hooks 15 of a flexible belt. The outer annular member has an inner diameter smaller than the maximum diameter of the inner annular member and a V-shaped or dovetail split so that it may be expanded over the inner annular member. A coil spring joins the sides of the split. A breather duct 22 (see Fig. 7 not shown), is disposed through the upper part of the inner annular member. An apertured polyethylene shield 18 is disposed between the inner annular member and the body and has a cylindrical flange 20 which passes through the inner annular member in use. The receiver 12 may be made of polyethylene and the annular members of polymethylmethacrylate.
