UNITED s TEs PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM H. JONES, or SCHENECTADY, NEW YORK, AssIeiIon TOYGENERAL ELEc- 1 TRIO. COMPANY, a conrona'rrorr or NEW, YORK,
I SHADE HOLDER FOR LIGHT UNITS.
To all whom it may concern: 1
Beit known that I, WILLIAM H. J ONES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Schenectady, in the county of Schenectady, Stateof New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shade Holders for Light Units, of which the following is a specification. 1
My invention relatesto globe or shade holders and has forit's object the provision of a simple, effective and comparatively inexpensive device for holding a shade in place.
The device is hereinafter fully set forth and claimed, reference being had to the ac-,
companying drawing inwhich Fig. 1 shows a form of the device for holding a single piece shade or globe; Fig. 2 shows a form of the device for holding a two-piece globe, both of which pieces are'ot approximately the same thickness; Fig. 3 shows a form of the device for holding a two-piece globe,
one of the elements of which is thicker than the other.
Referring more in detail to the drawing,
the holder in the preferred form shown consists of an angular portion 2 having shoulder 3 and an inner flange 4. About its periphery the holder is provided with suitably threaded holes 5 through whlch screws project for clamping the holder to anysuitglobe 6 may be provided with a flange 7 adapted to rest in the shoulder 3. On the underside of the holder there is provided a ring 8 which is secured to the holder by means of suitable screws 9 which are threaded into theflange 4. Between the ring 8 and the shoulder 3'the flange 7 of the globe is wedged tightly in place. stood that if desired any suitable form of bushing may be inserted between the globe I and the holder.
It will be understood that the neck portions 10 of the holder may be made of differentlengths so as to accommodate globes of As indicated in Fig. 1, the.
It will be undershown with a rather short neck. while the holder in. Fig. 3 is shown with a somewhat longer neck, and the holder in Fig. 2 is shown with a stilllonger neck in order to accommodate the two sections of the globe which are shown section in Fig. 3.
l/Vith a holder of this type, it is readily seen that the globe .may be removed by merely removingthe ring 8. On the other asbeing'thicker than the hand, the globe may be readily clampedinto position by merely slipping the globe into POSltlQil against the shoulder of the holder and securing the ring 8in' place by the screws.
What I claim'as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is,%
l. A shade holder for a light unit having an element formed with two annular rings, 7
ment, and both flanges clamped in position by said washer.
2. A shade for a light unit consisting of two separate glass elements each having a radial flange on one end and constructed so that one flange may rest upon the other, both elements being flaring inform, said elements constructed so that their rims on the oppositeside of the flanges come together thereby forming a closure with a hollowspace between the two elements, and means for clamping the two flanges together.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand this'9th day of August, 1924'.
WILLIAM H. JONES.
