The closure member of a valve comprises a sealing member 15 with a peripheral groove 14 which is engaged by an inwardly extending flange 10 on a resilient supporting member 6, the member 6 having a stud 7 which frictionally engages an axial opening 8 in the screw-threaded valve stem 4. The sealing member 15 is freely rotatable in the supporting member 6 and may be made of a plastic material such as a polyamide product. The supporting member 6, which may also be made of a similar material, may be longitudinally slotted in that part which encircles the sealing member 15.
