Abstract

Polyacrylonitrile filaments comprise a mixture of (a) polyacrylonitrile or a copolymer of acrylonitrile, containing more than 80% of acrylonitrile the polyacrylonitrile or acrylonitrile copolymer having a K-value of from 80 to 100, and up to 20% of (b) polyacrylonitrile or a copolymer of acrylonitrile containing more than 80% of acrylonitrile, the polyacrylonitrile or acrylonitrile copolymer having a K-value of between 35 and 60, which polymers and copolymers have been produced in acid medium and in the presence of a redox catalyst. Co-monomers specified are methyl methacrylate and vinyl acetate. The filaments may be spun from solution in an organic solvent such as dimethyl formamide. Specification 579,887 is referred to.
