Abstract

Spinning solutions of polyacrylonitrile or acrylonitrile copolymers with at least 85% by weight acrylonitrile content are produced by dissolving acrylonitrile or a mixture of acrylonitrile and one or more other monomers in dimethyl formamide in proportions of monomer to solvent of between 15:85 and 45:55 by weight, adding diacyl peroxides produced from C1 to C18 saturated fatty acids in a concentration of 0,1 to 5% by weight, referred to the total amount of solution, and carrying out polymerization at 30-60 DEG C. for 24 to 60 hours. The other monomers include styrene, methyl methacrylate and vinyl acetate, and the diacyl peroxide may be acetyl, butyryl, capryl, lauroyl or stearyl peroxide, and in the case of the C1 to C12 acids may be made in situ from the corresponding acid anhydride and hydrogen or urea peroxide.
