Abstract

Mixtures of polyvinyl chloride with a polymer or polymers derived from an ethylenically unsaturated monomer and having little or no compatibility with polyvinyl chloride are made by grafting the monomer of the polymer on to polyvinyl chloride and mixing the resultant graft polymer with the polymer which is incompatible with polyvinyl chloride. The preparation is exemplified of polyvinylchloride/polyacrylonitrile mixtures by grafting acrylonitrile on to polyvinyl chloride, suitably by means of ionizing radiations, and mixing the resultant polymer with polyacrylonitrile. The graft polymerization may be carried out in successive steps as described in Specification 860,347.
