Abstract

842,712. Pallets for handling loads. STEVENSON & SONS Ltd., H., and WATERMAN, E. R. Sept. 5, 1956 [Sept. 6, 1955], No. 25563/55. Class 78 (4). Each hollow foot of a pallet is folded from sheet paper or cardboard to provide extensions 16a, 16b, 17a, 17b (Fig. 3), pressed upwardly through spaced slots 23, 24 in the deck 1 of the pallet and then downwardly through a slot or slots 25 so that the ends 16b, 17b of the extensions can co-operate with further parts of the foot to lock the foot to the platform. As illustrated, the extensions have slots 26, 27 and co-operate with slots 12 in a transverse member 8 (see also Fig. 4) joining opposite walls 5, 18 of a foot of rectangular section. The member 8 may be a separate insert stiffening the leg or may be formed by the ends of extensions of the sides 6, 7 folded to provide portions 30, 31 beneath the platform 1 and leading to the upright portions 8. The sides may be stapled together as at S and a further sheet of cardboard may be laid over the deck 1 to secure the portion 16a, 17a. To facilitate inserting the extensions 16a, 16b in the slot 25 a further fold 28 is formed in the portion 16b.
