Abstract

842,518. Charging reverberatory furnaces. EISENWERKE MULHEIM / MEIDERICH A.G. April 14, 1958 [April 20, 1957; Aug. 9, 1957], No. 11804/58. Class 51 (2). Scrap iron &c. to be fed into an open hearth furnace are charged into a box cast of pig iron in one piece, or made from several castings roughly joined together. The boxes may have felt or other projections at the bottom on which they rest when being charged, so arranged that the boxes are readily overturned on charging into the furnace. The boxes, filled with other charge materials, are preheated to between 500-1,000‹ C. in a furnace heated by blast furnace gas.
