Abstract

818,869. Continuous metal heating furnaces ; slag pockets. SALEM-BROSIUS Inc. July 29, 1957, No. 23960/57. Class 51 (2). In a continuous metalheating furnace of the pusher type, a slag pocket 13 is defined by permanent refractory walls 6, 14, 15 and 16 with spaced supports 12 extending therein carrying water - cooled skid rails 11, and a series of slag-receiving cells 18 is built up of walls 20 separated from the permanent walls and from the supports 12 by layers 23, 24, 25 of granular material, e.g. sand. When necessary the slag is easily removed as divided by the cells. The heating zone of the furnace is fired by an upper set of burners 9 in the wall 8 and by a lower set of burners 7 in the slag pocket wall 6. The soaking zone is fired by burners 5a in the back wall 5, and has a solid hearth 10.
