Abstract
Iron ore is smelted in a shaft e.g. blast furnace wherein at least part of the iron ore and at least part of the coke and/or fluxing agent are charged into the furnace in the form of ore pellets and coke and/or fluxing agent pellets respectively free from other charge constituents.
