842,262. Centrifugal pumps and blowers; turbines. SKOGLUND & OLSON A.B. Nov. 20, 1956 [Jan. 13, 1956], No. 35504/56. Classes 110 (1) and 110 (3). In a rotor for a centrifugal pump or blower or a radial-flow turbine, the blades merge at their inlet end with an inner cylindrical wall and concentric with the axis of rotation, the impeller inlet being divided into an inner circular port within the inner cylindrical wall and an outer annular port between the inner and an outer cylindrical wall so as to provide inner and outer series of channels having their outlet ends arranged to alternate one with the other. The inner wall 20 of the centrifugal pump impeller shown in Fig. 1, changes from its initial cylindrical form at the inlet to the form shown in Fig. 3, subsequently dividing into three separate walls 26, Fig. 4, which become kinked as in Fig. 5, and eventually divide into separate walls 5, 6, Fig. 6, extending between the outer cylindrical wall 21 of the impeller and the back plate 23. The walls 5, 6 eventually become parallel to the axis of rotation at the impeller outlet. Thus, there are provided three channels 27, 28, 29, having a common annular inlet bounded by the walls 20, 21, and alternating with three channels 30, 31, 32 having a common circular inlet bounded by the wall 20. The pump is suitable for pumping thick, viscous or solid-carrying fluids.
