Abstract

842,138. Filters. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. March 11, 1959 [March 17, 1958], No. 8381/59. Class 46. [Also in Group XXVII] Fuel is fed by a pump 16 from a tank 10 to the inlet chamber 22 of a filter head 18 and is distributed by a ring of holes 63 in a disc 60 to an annular filter pouch 56 of accreted or woven material for outward flow therethrough. Filtered fuel passes up a passage 49 to an outlet chamber 26 and thence to the fuel system of the engine. Vapour or gas collecting in the inlet chamber 22 passes to tank 10 (where it is condensed) via a restricted passage 29. In Fig. 3 (not shown) the filter element 56 is replaced by a fibrous cup-like element around and spaced from the passage 49 for inward flow, the fuel being distributed to its outside by an apertured disc like 60.
