Abstract

841,932. Razors. GILLETTE CO. June 13, 1958 [June 26, 1957], No. 18955/58. Class 30 A safety razor comprises a toggle-operated pullrod 26 extending within nested, tubular handles 16, 18 for positioning blade-clamping cap sections 32 relatively to a blade-carrying platform 20 connected to the handle 16, and a seat 22, for the toggle 36, connected to the opposite end of handle 18, the connection between the handle 16 and the platform and/or the connection between the seat and the handle 18 being axially movable to permit relative movement of the connections and a spring being provided to urge the platform or the seat to extended position. As shown in Fig. 1 the handles are telescopic and compression springs 52, 62 urge the handle 16 and platform upwards to bladeclamping position, the seat 22 being locked in the handle 18 by a nut 24 and may be preset in the factory, cement being introduced between the threads. The toggle 36 is held by a spring- urged ball 82 engaging a selected recess in the end of the pullrod which is urged upwardly by a spring 42 to open the cap sections 32 to an intermediate, rinsing position or to a wider open, blade-replacement position. The axial distance between the blade 14 and guard 60 is adjusted, according to indicia, by rotation of a collar 54 to engage flutes 72 with a spring 74, rotation being limited to less than one revolution. In a modification, shown in Fig. 7, the handle members are not telescopic, the seat 122 being slidable in the handle 118 and spring 62 providing the clamping pressure on the blade.
