Abstract

840,578. Making nuts; forging. ROHE, F. W. Nov. 20, 1958 [Feb. 10, 1958], No. 4306/58. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). [Also in Group XXV] A self-locking nut comprising a body 11, Fig. 3, with a necked extension 13, is produced from bar-stock on an automatic lathe, and then the neck is squeezed between dies 14, Fig. 1, to reduce the pitch diameter locally. The dies each comprise a semi-circular recess 15 of the same radius as the neck, with a flat 16 across the bottom thereof. The dies are forced towards each other, e.g. by hydraulic pressure, until they meet. Specifications 812,540 and 813,350 are referred to.
