922,535. Making self-locking nuts. PENN ENGINEERING & MANUFACTURING CORPORATION. May 15, 1959 [Feb. 13, 1959], No. 16782/59. Class 83 (2). [Also in Group XXV] A nut comprising a body 12, Fig. 1, with integral extension 13 divided by diametrically - aligned slots 22 into symmetrical segments 14, 15, has the segments deformed towards each other by a die 40, Fig. 4, to provide a locking action. At the juncture of extension and body, the extension is formed with an annular undercut 25 and recess 18, 19 lying parallel to the slots, so that the segments can bend more readily between the slots than adjacent the slots. In a modification, the slots extend into body 12 and may have arcuate bottoms.
