Abstract

A flame- and age-resistant insulating composition for an electrical conductor comprises 55 to 76% by weight polyethylene, 2 to 5% butyl rubber or polyisobutylene, 10 to 34.4% antimony trioxide or zinc borate, and 8.6 to 21.5% chlorinated paraffin, diphenyl or naphthalene. Stabilizing agents such as phenoxypropylene oxide, basic silicate of lead, or a monohydrated tribasic lead salt of maleic acid, and fillers such as silica aerogel, or carbon black may also be included.
