Abstract
A plastisol composition for use as a protective coating on ferrous metal products comprises 100 parts by weight of polyvinyl chloride in the form of a polyvinyl chloride sol and 0.5 to 50 parts by weight of an orthoplumbate of calcium, strontium or barium. 5 to 150 parts by weight of an epoxide compound of an organic acid may be added as plasticizer to the above composition. In addition 1.0 to 200 parts by weight of an organic acid anhydride may be added to the composition obtained by mixing the above three constituents. The orthoplumbate stabilizers for the polyvinyl chloride sol are obtained by heating to 700 DEG C. or more an alkaline earth metal oxide and lead oxide. The epoxy compounds mentioned are butyl epoxy stearate, 3, 4-epoxy cyclohexyl methyl ester, 9, 10-epoxy-iso-octyl-stearate, or cyclohexyl methyl-3, 4-epoxy-6-methyl cyclohexane carboxylate, epoxylated soybean oil and 9, 10, 12, 13 diepoxy stearate. The organic anhydrides mentioned are methyl nadic acid anhydride, pyromellitic dianhydride, dodecenyl succinic anhydride and chlorendic anhydride. The polyvinyl chloride sols are usually obtained by heating polyvinyl chloride paste resin of grain size about 1.5m with a plasticizer e.g. a phthalate ester type plasticizer. The plastisol composition may be used to coat ferrous products such as the high-tension members of electrical transmission lines, or the steel tape or wire used for the protection of telephone and power cables, or wire screens.ALSO:Ferrous products such as the high-tension members of electrical transmission lines, or the steel tape or steel or iron wires used for the protection of telephone and power cables, or wire screens or iron plates, may be coated with a plastisol composition obtained by adding to 100 parts by weight of polyvinyl chloride in the form of polyvinyl chloride sol, 0,5-50 parts by weight of an orthoplumbate of calcium, strontium or barium. In addition the plastisol composition may contain 5-150 parts by weight of epoxide compounds of organic acids and furthermore if such epoxide compounds are present, 1,0-200 parts by weight of an organic acid anhydride may be added.
