840,106. Ring-roll briquetting presses. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd. Aug. 17, 1956 [Aug. 3, 1955; Aug. 17, 1955; Sept. 29, 1955; Oct. 11, 1955], Nos. 3220/55, 23725/55, 27776/55 and 28980/55. Class 87(2). Coal dust &c. is briquetted in an eccentric ring-roll press by at least one compressing element movable relative to the ring and the roll so that it can be forced into or against the coal particles while they are held under pressure by the ring and roll to cause angular shear strain of such magnitude and distribution as to produce a strong briquette. In the embodiment of Fig. 1, spring-loaded plungers 6, located in the ring 2, are forced inwardly by roller 4 at the point X and compress the coal dust against roll 1 to form briquettes B. In the embodiment of Fig. 7, two outer disc-like members 111 and a central disc member 1 are eccentrically mounted with respect to each other and to a ring 2 so that maximum compression occurs at the bottom of the press. In other embodiments (not shown) plungers may be located in the roll, or shaped moulding rings may be provided on either side of the ring and the roll. Specification 807,433 is referred to.
