Abstract

839,169. Valves. BENDIX-WESTING- HOUSE AUTOMOTIVE AIR BRAKE CO. Julv 18, 1958 [Sept. 4, 1957], No. 23168/58. Class 135. A compressor inlet valve comprises a resilient strip 40 clamped between a valve plate 16 and the upper end of a cylinder 12, the valve plate 16 having an inlet port 26 closed by the other end of the strip 40. The upper end of the cylinder 12 is provided with a recess 62 to accommodate the clamped end of the resilient strip 40, a portion of the sealing gasket 24 being forced into the recess below the strip 40, so that it forms a yielding pad between the end of the cylinder and the resilient strip. The upper end of the cylinder 12 is also apertured to receive guidepins 60 which locate the strip 40 relative to the port 26. A pair of side-by-side ports may be substituted for the single port 26. The cylinder head, valve plate and cylinder are clamped together by studs 20. In another embodiment a similar arrangement of a resilient strip is provided for the outlet ports.
