Abstract
839,116. Bottle-closures. SEALS Inc. Nov. 11, 1958, No. 36193/58. Class 125(3). To render difficult the removal, by children, of the cap of a poison-bottle, the cap consists of an inner part 12 mounted on the bottleneck, and an outer part 10 mounted on the inner part so as to be relatively movable both axially and circumferentially but not rockably, means 24, 18 being formed on the two parts for clutching them together for simultaneous rotation, additional means 20 formed integrally with one of the parts to act on the other to move it axially away from the clutching position, and further means formed integrally with at least one of the parts to retain the parts in assembled relation. In Fig. 2, the clutching means comprise lugs 24 integral with the outer member which enter into slots 18 in the inner member when the outer member is depressed against the action of integral spring-like flaps 20 on the top of the inner member. Two lugs 24, and slots 18 are provided, diametricallyspaced, the slots being of different sizes so that there is only one clutching position in 360 degrees of rotation. The parts are of polythene and the outer part is sprung over the inner, the springing being assisted by bevelled surfaces 26, 28 on the lugs and on the edge of the inner member 12. Engagement between the lugs 24 and a groove 16 in the inner member prevents separation of the parts. In Fig. 10, accidental separation is prevented by flanges, such as 34 on the lower edges of the outer and inner members 10, 12 and the clutching members comprise castellations 44, 48 on the endwalls of these members, the inner member being provided with integral spring-flaps 42. The arrangement may be applied to screw-caps or bayonet-caps, Fig. 5 (not shown).
