Abstract
838,684. Indicators for switches. WELWYN ELECTRICAL LABORATORIES Ltd. Aug. 25, 1958, No. 27246/58. Addition to 836,264. Class 38 (5). A switch 16, as in the parent Specification, has a V-form abutment member 19, the arms of which are alternately engaged by a trigger member 10 to change the condition of the switch upon successive actuations of a knob 8. The trigger 10 has a lug 11 accommodated in a slot 12 in a slidable actuator member 6 and retained against one end 13 of the slot 12 by a spring 24 which thereby also serves to retract the member 6. When knob 8 is pushed the trigger 10, in moving the V-member to its alternate position, swings to one side, the lug 11 being re-seated in slot 12 upon retraction of actuator 6. The knob 8 has a rectangular tunnel in which is slidably located an indicator member 37 of different colour to the knob 8 and/or carrying the word ON while the sill of the tunnel at the inclined corner surface 38 carries the word OFF. The indicator 37 is displaceable by an extension 39 of a slider 28 overlying actuator 6 and having a lug 33 (Fig. 2) engaged by a light spring 30 and a lug 35 (Fig. 1) which can enter a recess 36 in the side of actuator 6. When the switch is operated such that the V-member 19 moves clockwise (Fig. 1) the arm 20 thereof and/or the corner of trigger 10 disengages the lug 35 from recess 36. When actuator 6 is retracted the spring 30 holds the slider 28 stationary and hence the indicator 37 is hidden in the tunnel in knob 8. On the next actuation the V-member 19 is moved anticlockwise, allowing lug 35 to re-enter recess 36 and the slider 28 is moved back with actuator 6, and indicator 37 is thus visible at the edge 38 of knob 8. In a modification, the actuator 6 may be mounted for angular movement on an arm pivoted about one of the bolts or rivets 17, 17a, a suitable knob being provided, and the slider 28 being connected by a lever to an indicator movable from side-to-side within the knob.
