Abstract
838,446. Cutting by fusion. CINK, A. Oct. 4, 1956 [Oct. 24, 1955], No. 30304/56. Class 83 (4). Flame cutting apparatus for cutting a tube 12 comprises a carriage 1 carrying a cutting torch 6 and adapted to be traversed around the tube by a chain 11 engaging a chain wheel 10 on the carriage. The latter has two side plates 1 spaced apart by tubes 3 carrying supports 5 for one or more cutting torches 6 which may be on one or both sides of the carriage. The plates have a series of holes for supporting at selected positions wheels 2 which run on the tube. A sleeve 8 pivoted on a bracket on one tube 3 and supported adjacent the other tube by a screw device 14 carried by a spring rod 15, Fig. 2 (not shown), carries a worm shaft 9 whose worm engages a worm-wheel connected to the chain wheel 10 also carried by the sleeve. In operation the chain, which has a release lock 16 of the kind described in Specification 817,638 is passed around the tube and over the chain wheel and is tensioned by the screw device 14. Rotation of the worm shaft 9 by handles 13 traverses the carriage around the tube. Alternatively the worm shaft may be driven by an electric motor. The drive is disconnectible from the chain wheel.
