Abstract

838,358. Refrigerators. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Nov. 19, 1958 [Dec. 19, 1957], No. 37205/58. Class 29 [Also in Group XXV] In order to adjust the sealing pressure of the gasket 28 of a refrigerator door 12, the hinges and catches are mounted in top and bottom brackets 31, 32 which are carried adjustably on the cabinet. The brackets are formed as bars extending across the cabinet and received in U- shaped members 34 welded to inturned flange 33 of the cabinet shell 10. Screws 39 take through elongated apertures 38 in the brackets and into threaded holes in one limb of members 34 so that, when tightened, they clamp the brackets in position adjusted in a direction at right angles to the plane of the cabinet opening. The hinges, Fig. 5, consist of pins 42 secured to brackets 31, 32 at one side of the cabinet and taking into nylon sockets 43 on the door. At the other side of the cabinet, the door has top and bottom spring-loaded catches 56, Fig. 6, taking into recesses 53 formed in the brackets 31, 32 to hold the door closed.
