Class 20(4) A cruciform building unit made of concrete or pressed steel for constructing floors and roofs has V-shaped i nclined faces 2, 3 at the outer end of each of the four limbs 1 which are connected to limbs of adjacent units by wedges 4. Two wedges 4 are used for each joint, one being inserted above on faces 2 and the other below on faces 3. The wedges have vertical holes so that they can be bolted together. Holes are provided throughout the limbs of each unit to contain stressing cables 5 so that the units may be connected together. In assembling, the units are laid out in rows and connected by stressing cables, the wedges inserted and secured and the formed grid transferred to its position in the building; alternatively, beams are made by connecting together lines of the units as before, the beams being set side-by-side with aligned transverse limbs which are then similarly connected up. The rectangular spaces between the limbs are filled in with units 8. Curved structures, Fig. 4 (not shown) are constructed by inserting wedges of greater angle and lateral dimensions on the outside of the curve than those on the inside of the curve. For stronger structures each unit may have a hanger member for supporting an additional stressing cable exteriorly of the units.
