Abstract

822,738. Floors; foundation for buildings. KERMODE, S. July 26, 1957 [Aug. 15, 1956], No. 24989/56. Classes 20(2) and 20(4) A floor structure comprises concrete piers 12 mounted on foundation pads 13 and arranged in parallel rows, unitary floor sections 14 comprising a frame of wooden floor joists 16, 17, carrying floor boards 18 being laid directly on the piers 12 the tops of which are provided with recesses to receive the joists 16, 17. Adjacent sections are bolted together by bolts 28, Fig. 2, and hardwood tongues 26 are fitted in grooves in the side joists 16 of adjacent sections to maintain the tops 18 of the sections flush with one another. Each side pier of the floor structure has a T-shaped recess 23, Fig. 4, at the top to receive the joists of one or more sections and a recess 31 in its outer side to receive a timber rail to which are secured asbestor-cement panels which are fixed around the sides of the building to close the gap between the floor and the ground.
