Abstract

838,008. Electric lamp supports. LIGHTOLIER Inc. May 6, 1958 [June 14, 1957], No. 14481/58. Class 75(3) [Also in Group XXXVI] A floor to ceiling post 11 (Fig. 1) having a spring-urged upper end 12 and an adjustable lower end 12<SP>1</SP> is provided with side flanges 16 (Fig. 2) which, with side walls 15 and lips 17, 18, form a divided enclosure, the rear part of which accommodates conductors 22 held in a resilient extruded insulating strip 21 and the front part of which accommodates locking flanges 26, 27 of a plug member 25. The contact fingers 39, 41 of the plug member are brought into connection with the conductors 22 when the plug is turned to bring its slightly flexible locking flanges 26, 27 perpendicularly across the slot formed by lips 17 through which they were introduced. Conducting strips 37, 38, which have stuck out portions 45 and which are bent at the ends to form the plug contact fingers 39, 41 are clamped by a plug insert 32 the end of which is bevelled to permit inward displacement of the contact fingers 39, 41. The housing 56 of the plug incorporates a face plate 58 (Fig. 5) with top and bottom projections 61 which fit in the slot between lips 17 and prevent rotation. Rotation of the plug 25 and the attached insulating sleeve member 48 through 90 degrees to turn the contact fingers and locking flanges 26, 27 across post 11 after insertion through the slot therein is produced by moving a headed screw 67 which passes through a slot 66 in housing 56 and a hole in plug 25 into a threaded bore in insert 32. This screw is screwed further in when the plug is in contact position, the head then entering hole 65 and, since it is wider than slot 66 preventing return rotation of plug 25. The slot 66 is inclined so that rotation of plug 25 into contact position causes locking flanges 26, 27 to grip the lips 17 of post 11 against plate 58 of housing 56. A dimple 62 in housing 56 co-operates with grooves 63, 64 in plug 25. A lamp 47 is mounted through sleeve 73 (Fig. 5) on the reduced portion 72 of plug housing 56.
