Abstract

837,859. Pneumatic linear-dimension gauges. SHEFFIELD CORPORATION. Nov. 18, 1957, No. 35848/57. Class 106 (2). A pneumatic gauging spindle for measuring the diameter of a hole comprises an elongated body 10 having an air passage 14 therealong terminating in an orifice 25, a pair of contacts 30 (Fig. 3) being fixed to one end of the body 10, and a gauging arm 12 extending between the contacts 30 and carrying a gauging contact 40 on the opposite side of the body 10 from the contacts 30, the arm 12 having a flow-controlling surface 35 opposing the orifice 25. The air passage 14 is connected to a source of air under pressure 21, and a flow-meter 20, and the arm 12 is fixed to the body 10 in a groove 11 by cementing, having a reduced portion 36 to allow for swinging movement. The contact 40 is an adjustable nut secured in position by a lock-nut 41, and the contacts 30 are located in extensions 27 of the body 10 on either side of the arm 12.
