926,621. Pneumatic gauges. ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd. Aug. 16, 1961 [Aug. 23, 1960], No. 29169/60. Class 106 (2). A gauge comprises a conduit 10 directing a jet of fluid through a nozzle 13 on to a surface 14, of a workpiece 15 to be gauged so that back pressure in conduit 10 depends on the relative position of the nozzle 13 to surface 14. The spindle 20 of bellows 17 which detect the back pressure operates a servo-mechanism to adjust the position of nozzle 13 by means of a lead screw 25 so that the distance between nozzle 13 and surface 14 remains constant when the position of surface 14 varies. An indicator 27 shows the displacement of the nozzle which is a measure of the surface. The gauge may be used to control a machine tool.
