Abstract
837,543. Operating clutches. BLOCK & ANDERSON Ltd. June 12, 1956 [June 28, 1955], No. 18705/55. Class 80 (2). [Also in Group XVI] A clutch member 28, Fig. 4, is keyed to a driving-shaft 47 which is freely rotatable about driven shaft 5, to which is secured a plate 26 carrying a pivoted pawl 27 urged into engagement with the member 28 by a spring 31. Two pawls 32, 33 are pivoted on a stud 34, the pawl 32 holding the pawl 27 in released position, while the pawl 33 engages in a notch 26a in the plate 26 to hold the shaft 5 in registered position. A manual control member 48, Fig. 2, is actuated to engage the clutch, and acts through a lever 41, rod 42, and lever 43 to rock the shaft 37, whereupon a lever 36 moves a roller 44 to release the pawls 32, 33 and allow the pawl 27 to engage the member 28. An arm 45 of a trip-lever 39 drops over a roller 46 to lock the lever 43 in its right-hand position and prevent release of the clutch after the first revolution of the shaft 5, but during the second revolution a trip-block 38 carried on a chain 12 (see Group XVI) acts on a second arm 40 of the lever 39 to release the roller 46 and disengage the clutch at the end of the second revolution.
