Abstract

804,759. Clutches. LEYLAND MOTORS Ltd. April 18, 1957 [Jan. 18, 1956], No. 1753/56. Class 80 (2). In a centrifugal clutch the pressure plate 3 is actuated by three-armed levers 17 supported on a pivot plate 6. One arm of each lever has a weighted end 18 which projects through the cover-plate 5, the outward movement being limited by stop 19, the second arm bears on a circular pad 24 on the pressure plate while the third arm bears through a ball 21 upon a light spring 22. The pivot plate 6 is pressed towards the pressure plate 3 by pre-stressed springs 7, the movement being limited by bolts 11 secured to the cover-plate 5. The springs 22 prevent engagement of the clutch until a predetermined speed is reached, while when the clutch pressure is sufficient for full torque the pivot plate 6 moves against the springs 7 to prevent undue increase of clutch pressure.
