Abstract
837,398. Quenching coke. KOPPERS G.m.b.H., H. Dec. 8, 1958 [Dec. 7, 1957], No. 39570/58. Class 51 (2). Apparatus for quenching coke comprises a tower 1, an upper cylindrical lining member 2 having sets of sprays 15 and a lower fan-type spray 16 fed with water from a trough 11 and formed with an annular trough 9, and a lower lining 7 having sprays 3 above the coke car 5 fed with water from the trough 9 by pipes 10. The water from the trough 11 is controlled by valve 17 in the pipe 14, and a pump 13 returns the water from a sump 18 to said trough 11. A louvre 8 at the top of lining 7 imparts a swirling motion to the ascending steam, facilitating deposition of solid particles and drops of water therefrom on to the walls of the lining 2 from which they are washed into the trough 9.
