Abstract
539,043. Gas washing and cleaning plant. WHESSOE FOUNDRY & ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and TAYLOR, A. E. March 5, 1940. No. 4107. [Class 55 (ii)] Gases such as distillation gas or producer gas containing oily matter are cleaned by passage through a cyclone separator gas washing fan, or disintegrator, and an electrostatic precipitator in series. The crude gas first passes through a pre-cooler A in which it is sprayed by nozzles 8 with cooling liquor, then through a disintegrator B which is provided by a gas washing fan or cyclone separator, and through a spray separator C and after cooler D formed by a gridfilled tower, and finally through an electrostatic precipitator or de-tarrer E. Liquor drains into a separating tank 16 by way of water seals 17, 18 and 19 and from the de-tarrer E by connection 20, and the super-natant liquor is supplied by a pump 6 to the sprays 8 and pipes 10, 11 and 12 feeding the disintegrator B, spray separator C, and precipitator E respectively. The circulating liquor is kept by the sensible heat of the gases at a temperature of 70‹ to 75‹C. so that the tar has a low viscosity.
