Abstract

PURPOSE: To cool and clean a gas efficiently by a simple equipment, by making part of a horizontal coke-oven gas main pipe inclined downward along the gas flow direction and installing a demister and a countercurrent spray nozzle for cooling water.
CONSTITUTION: Part of a main gas pipe 1 to be served as a cooling pupe 3 is so inclined downward along the gas flow direction that the gradient rauges from -10/10,000 to -15/10,000. A plurality of spray nozzles 4 are installed at regular intervals along the pipe axis, with the spraying direction being made counter current to the gas flow. The gas fed into the pipe 3 is thus cooled by spraying cooling water through each nozzle 4. The sprayed cooling water is brought, along the inclination of the pipe, through the T-shaped pipe 6 to the storage tank 5, being subjected to recycling. The cooled gas is freed from accompanying mist by a demister 8 and subsequently discharged to the next process. The diameter of the cooling pipe 3 is so designed that a gas flow rate may be 2W2.5 m/sec.
