Abstract

836,779. Wire strainers. BAKER, A. L. L., and VISVESVARAYA, H. C. March 29, 1956 [April 7, 1955], No. 10303/55. Class 45. [Also in Group X] A jack for straining a rod 10 comprises an annular piston 2 . . . 6, and a cylinder 1 having a bore 9 through which the rod can pass. The jack is threaded over the end of the rod in a recess 15 and a washer 12 and nut 11 fitted to the rod. Pressure fluid is applied to the end 4 of the piston to tension the rod. When the required tension is reached a nut 17 on the rod is tightened against the side 14 of the recess to hold the tension. A clip 22 carrying a dial gauge 23 may be engaged with the washer to enable the extension of the rod to be measured.
