Abstract

1428981 Strength testing IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 21 June 1973 [3 July 1972] 31046/72 Heading G1S The pull strength of a stud secured to a surface by adhesive is tested by a device comprising an upper piston and cylinder 3, 4 for pressurizing an hydraulic fluid, a lower piston and cylinder 7, 8 connected to the upper cylinder by a passage 11 whereby an upward force is applied to the lower piston 8 by the pressurized fluid, a draw bar 9 for coupling the lower piston 8 to the stud, and a pressure gauge 13. Draw bar 9 is connected to the stud by a threaded ball joint 15. An upper half coupling 16 attached to the draw bar 9 screwthreadedly engages a lower half coupling having an aperture 18 surrounding the stud. In use a predetermined test force may be applied to the stud, or the force required to detach the stud determined.
