Classes 20(3) and 20(4) Panels forming walls, partitions, ceilings or cabinets are supported by horizontal and vertical carries each of which comprises a main member and a capping member of channel section with their bases disposed outwardly and connected together so as to clamp the edges of the panels, or fillets in which such edges are mounted, between them. A main horizontal member 34, Fig. 2, of sheet metal has lips 35 and projections 36 which together with the lips 39 on the capping member 38 form rebates in which a panel 19 is mounted or a fillet is received. The fillet, which may be of moulded rubber, may have a single channel to receive a glass panel 20 or two parallel channels to receive a pair of glass panels such as 21 one of which may be slidable. The projections 36 are strengthened by a channel member 37 welded thereto and the capping member 38 is secured by screws passing through its base and engaging the channel 37. The upright members 25, 30 are of similar form to the horizontals 34, 38. The bases of the channel members 25, 30, 34, 38 have rebates to receive panels extending at right angles to other panels, for instance at the corner of a partition, at junctions of partitions, and where horizontal panels such as false ceilings are provided. To connect on upright member 25 to a pair of horizontal members 34, a channel shaped connecting piece 45, Fig. 3, is employed which is screwed through holes 47, 49, 50 to the upright and horizontals, the projections and strengthening member 28 of the upright 25 being cut away at 48 to pass the piece 45. The capping members 30, 38 when secured to the main members 25, 34 conceal the connecting piece 45. To secure a further horizontal rail at right angles to the other two, as in Fig. 2, a connecting piece is used similar to that 45 but having a section welded to it at right angles at about its centre, this portion passing through a slot in the rebate 33 of capping 30 and being screwed to the main horizontal member. An edge member 53, Fig. 5, for securing the panelling to a floor, wall or ceiling has a rebate 55 to receive a -panel edge and has mounted thereon a bracket 56 which enters the strengthening member 28 of the upright 25 and may be bolted thereto. An alternative form of bracket 63 may be provided. The edge member may alternatively have a twosided rebate instead of the three-sided one 55. In a modified form of panel supporting carrier, each member is extruded or moulded to a cross-section approximating to that of members 25, 30, 34, 38, the bases of the rebates in the channel bases of the co-operating members being thickened for the passage of securing screws. In another form, Fig. 10, the portions 84, 85 are of similar shape, the portion 84 having channels 88, 89 spot welded thereto and portion 85 having the channel 90 welded to it. A similar embodiment may be extruded or moulded. In another form, Fig. 12, the sections 99, 105 are identical, the section 99 having a section 100 fitting within it which has a raised base portion 104 to receive a screw 106 holding the section 105 in position. The panel supporting members may be used for mounting panels which form sliding or pivoted doors.
